Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay
My dear friend Tracy and I were talking about the movie Slumdog Millionaire; comparing notes and whatnot. She suggested that, if I liked Slumdog so much, I should consider reading Sarah's Key as there are two story lines, one based in 1942 and the other based in 2002. She made a call to make sure that Jill, who owned the copy of Sarah's Key that Tracy had been reading, could be loaned to me for a week while I was on business travel. Jill accepted and off I went.
I boarded my first flight of the day at 5:15 a.m. and began to read. At approximately 11:00 p.m. that same night (and two time zones farther east away from whence I had started) I closed the book.
I could not stop reading once I started. The book was perfectly paced, for me. The book could have easily gone on for hundreds of more pages, but the author put an exquisite pace on it. With each page a new revelation. This book is hauntingly beautiful.
